New Indoor System for Irrigating Sequoias, yes ISIS. The goddess of nature and magic and an ideal of a mother. In today's incarnation the magnificent ISIS is a valve that was connected to a tub with water.
I have been watering sequoias from below by submerging individual containers in a bucket with water for a while but it is time consuming and with plants growing it's getting easier to damage them as they are removed and put back in the cells. Also in the past I filled out a large container with water and submerged the entire tray with sequoias in it. However, filling the tub with water, removing the tray from the tub and then emptying the tub proved to be messy and lengthy. Without any further ado... the ISIS:
The parts included 1/2" tubing, a "Speedfit" inline shut off valve (gray) and a Hydro Flow tub outlet (black). The main piece here is the tub outlet. It consists of a 1/2" hard plastic tube with 1" plastic nut and two rubber washers.
I placed a nut in the container where it would go as close into the corner as possible while being on the flat surface:
Drilled a 1" hole:
Then I pushed the hard plastic outlet from the bottom and then screwed the nut on the other side:
The shut off valve has a quick attachment mechanism where when the tube is inserted it is locked in place from inside.
Finally, the valve was connected to the outlet's hard plastic tube and the tube was extended to reach the bucket.
I put enough water in the tub so that the water reaches half the sequoia containers. After the water soaks in for about an hour the valve is opened to drain water out.
